Today marks the anniversary of the start of the 'scout' movement by Robert Baden-Powell.
He started the boy scout movement by setting up a camp for 20 boys in 1907. The movement has become global, with (according to the BBC) 28 million scouts worldwide.

Vorovoro is a small island in the Fiji archipelago which is leased by a group of individuals calling itself 'Tribewanted'. This project is both real and virtual ..
This has had a lot of press lately - mentions on BBC radio and also in the Guardian. The idea is that you join the tribe by going to the island and / or signing up online here.
You can join the community (the tribe) for a membership fee. This gives you an opportunity to visit the island and continue your membership of the tribe online.
This is a better idea than SecondLife!

A favourite of Islomania's. Found this on YouTube
They say the skies of Lebanon are burning
Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat
They're showing pictures on the television
Women and children dying in the street
And we're still at it in our own place
Still trying to reach the future through the past
Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone..

Duncan Carse, it seems, was a man obsessed with the Island of South Georgia, way down in the southern Atlantic Ocean. He died in 2004 aged 90, and his obituary in the Telegraph reported that he wished to be remembered for his survey of South Georgia.
Having just read Stephen Venables book, Island at the Edge of the World, I have learnt some things that are worth passing on here.
Early references to islands in Celtic myth and lore, and legends of islands at the ‘edge of the world’ and the continuum of island literature and narratives from early times show that the concept of the island is embedded into human consciousness.
