We’ve seen tons of stories these days about professors recording their lectures and posting them online for download, but one professor in the UK is going even further. He’s getting rid of in-person lectures completely.
Cory Doctorow: O’Reilly Media have taken a ton of criticism for attempting to enforce a service mark against a nonprofit group in Ireland that wanted to have "Web 2.0" conference. O’Reilly exec Dale Dougherty coined the term Web 2.0, and O’Reilly used it for a line of very successful conferences chaired by Boing Boing’s business manager, John Battelle (I’ve been a speaker at Web 2.0 as well, and found the con to be an amazing, eye-opening experience). Pandora builds a radio station for you, based on your favorite music. Brilliant Flash web application. You start by typing in the name of a song or artist. The song is compared against a selection of similar songs and they begin to play. You then sharpen up your taste indicators by saying if you like or dislike this song. Gradually, a radio station is made for you.
Unfortunately, you can find yourself not liking too many of the choices and then the license agreement, that the project has arranged limits the number of ‘rejections’.
