Fadtastic have a very interesting article on the use of Flash on web sites. Titled ‘Why Flash Disappoints: 8 Main Reasons’ the piece demonstrates that it may not be a good idea to use Flash after all.

Edward Tufte’s new book, Beautiful Evidence will soon be available
You can see the news about this on his web site here. Edward Tufte ‘self-publishes’ his work and the results are superb. This new book sets out the issues surrounding the methods that need to be used to present convincing evidence.

An excellent article over at Digital Web Magazine:
The Principles of Design by Joshua David McClurg-Genevese. This was published back in June 2005 but was pointed out to me by Chris Gibbins
The article covers all basic considerations and I will certainly point this out to my students.
I have written a few pieces about design so I have now created a new category for this topic so they all go in there from now on.

I was inspired to put together this presentation on Web Standards after reading Jeffrey Zeldman’s ‘Designing with Web Standards’, New Riders, 2003. This book needs to be on all web designers shelves, alongside Jeffrey Veen’s marvellous ‘The Art and Science of Web Design’, New Riders, 2001.

Graphic design is an important part of our work and our primary goal is make something that ‘works’ on the screen. But what exactly is design? What does HyperDictionary say? Design represents a plan to create something new. It gives form to an idea. It presents a scheme to be implemented.
