CSS tool - Style with Xyle

For Mac OSX users only comes this CSS analysis tool from ‘culturecode.com’.

This tool is built with Safari’s rendering engine and so the browser view is similar to that browser, when in browser mode. In ‘selection’ mode, however, a new pane opens with a wealth of information about the markup that is used to build the page. ‘Xyle’, interogates the CSS and displays colour coded rules and the cascade.

The tool can be used to view any web pages and even ‘tweak’ the css to view what impact those changes might have on the view of the page.

This tool is on trial at the moment but they are very likely to get the $14 asked for a licensed version from me!

Email a web page from Safari 2

Good news for lovers of eNewsletters!

You can now send a web page as email from within Safari version 2. Safari manages to set up a basepath to the original site and all the links to the graphics work. The external links work too (your web browser will fire up). You can also do some editing to the mail before sending.

What point is there to this? Well, it means that you can develop a web page, put it on a web server, load into Safari and then send as mail from Safari. Instant email newsletter.

Tiger eats Sainsbury’s Online

I was a bit premature with my adoption of Safari 2. Last night I discovered that I can’t shop online at Sainsbury’s. This is a real nuisance because we are now using this regularly instead of driving out to the nearest superstore.

It seems that something Sainsbury’s are doing with the javascript is just not functioning. They have these little ‘+’ signs, so you can add an item to the shopping cart. Nothing happens in Safari 2. Was always OK in Safari 1.

Trying to solve the issue is tricky because you won’t observe it until you are logged in and going through the ‘aisles’ placing goods in the shopping trolley. I have left a message with Sainsbury’s web team.

Stats Ecstatic

I love it! Statistics! If you need to know how many hits you get on your site (and you do need to know), then try MNM-Stats here

This uses PHP and mySql to gather comprehensive information about the visitors you have, including browser, operating system, colour depth and even screen resolution. So if you think that no one is viewing your site with a 640x480 screen, then get a copy of MNM-stats to find out for sure.
