Un-chained

I have now transferred all personal blog entries to chrisjennings.net.

Chains

This is the domain address I have owned for several years now, and have always used it for a mixture of my own history, family photos and memories. I thought it was time to make a break between private stuff and more work related stuff. So you won’t find pictures of children or pets on PageToScreen anymore. You just need to take a look over at chrisjennings.net.

The content is all delivered dynamically through the same database though. How did I do it?

furthermore...

ExpressionEngine allows you to deliver content to another domain or sub-domain, and by installing a couple of files on the 'guest' domain, you can take content from one template group and deliver it that URL.

The ExpressionEngine root file 'index.php' needs to be there so does 'path.php'. This latter has to be edited to include the name of the template group and the path to the control panel. This all works fine and dandy, but I discovered that if you wish to be rid of the 'index.php' in the URL (using a .htaccess file) then you should NOT specify that the index.php is your home file. Just leave this variable blank.

Can I just add another topic? You will notice some links to old photo galleries and it makes me wonder how to future proof all these differnt techniques that we use to show our material online. At one time I used Photoshop to build web galleries and then FTP to the site. Then I used iPhoto to 'share' to web galleries with a plug-in. For a while I even used Flickr. But let me hope that the technique with ExpressionEngine will just go on and on, because I am really tired of all these changes.

The new chrisjennings.net site is here.
